Swimmer Safety

For those who use wetsuits: wouldn’t a bright coloured model be safer than the dull black one? There are lime, yellow, pink, orange and fluorescent available! Check out this wetsuit website:

Identify!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone is this close (imagine me pinching my finger & thumb) to having their membership revoked and having a plague of the lovely birds (shown left) rain down upon their demesne every morning at dawn, if they don't refrain from posting non Vico indigenous birds on this blog!

Cuban Blackbird

Picture adjacent shows a Cuban Blackbird.

Is that the same variety of bird from the first picture?

Cuban Crow?

The picture adjacent shows a Cuban Crow ... obviously!! (Sourced from Wiki..) which is a different bird to the one shown in the previous picture.
Any other suggestions for the identity of the bird in the first picture?

Improved seawater quality?

Not pertaining to the Vico as such but not far removed geographically.
The new foul sewer pumping station at Colliemore harbour under construction, December 2006.
It remains to be seen whether this system, when commisioned, will improve the water quality at the Vico?
Fingers crossed, especially after the water quality at the Vico on Tuesday...thats last Tuesday or yesterday if you like, 15th May... or Tuesday last or Tuesday of this week...or maybe Tuesday just gone, sorry about the confusion!!

Large amount of granite rock had to be broken out to accommodate the sump for the proposed pumping station.

Spot any familiar faces?

Photo taken at 17:43 on 11/05/06.
Took that edgit getting in to the water in the photo long enough to remove the obstruction from the stepped footway...some people!!

It was hot down there in July.

Sea temperature vs depth
Although this is not from the Vico it's still interesting. Look how the cold water is near the surface in Winter and warm water in summer.

Plumose Anemones eating Lions Mane Jelly

So we won't need Dr.D's evil net this summer if we can encourage some of these anemones to visit the vico - another task for the well suited man perhaps!

Vote for the well suited man!

After having attended a H+S course this week and missed a few afternoons of lovely sunshine "on the rocks", my question is: Will the bars be fixed soon? Or will we have a hazardous Vico summer? Will the bars ever be fixed properly? Isn't there a law or a regulation that entitles us and all the swimming population to have a reasonably safe swimming place? Well, whatever may be the case, I'll keep bringing down the First Aid kit (if only to use the big plaster to close the big mouth that claims the well suited man is a great and dedicated member of the County Council :-)
